Kevin Wetmore, MPF Alum, Youth Coordinator at Arlington Community Media

My time as a Mass Promise Fellow had an immeasurable impact on my career path to this point. I grew both personally and professionally during my two years of service. This growth gave me the confidence to pursue my interests and build a career path. I've always had a love for filmmaking and a desire to work in video production, but I didn't know how to get started. As a Promise Fellow, the organization I served with (Tutoring Plus) allowed me to spend time taking classes in video production at Cambridge Community Television and produce a video to show at their annual fundraising event.

Other skills I developed as a Promise Fellow that I still use today include lesson planning, running after school programs, developing youth leaders, and building relationships with public schools.

After graduating from MPF, I enrolled in a filmmaking program through Boston University, and used my ED Award to help pay tuition. Today I work as the Youth Coordinator for Arlington Community Media, a non-profit media center in Arlington, Massachusetts. I manage a fully functioning professional television studio devoted to youth, which is located across the street from Arlington High School. My roles include teaching video production and filmmaking to students in Arlington, and assisting our youth to bring their ideas for various productions to life. I love my job and it wouldn't have been possible for me to get here without my MPF experience. It is rewarding to know that the skills I developed during my service continue to play a big part in my successes today.
